President Trump accused the Biden administration of wasting taxpayer money on 'transgender mice', an error for transgenic mice. This led to a wave of internet memes, with users ridiculing the comment.

US President Donald Trump, in his address to Congress, called out the previous Joe Biden administration for spending millions of dollars on making "mice transgender" in a slip-up for what was supposed to be "transgenic mice".
"$8 million for making mice transgender. This is real," said Donald Trump as he called out the Biden administration for spending taxpayer dollars on "transgender mice and other gender-bending social experiments" overseas.

Trump also said he's rushed to ban diversity and inclusion programs in the federal government and dismiss workers charged with advancing such efforts. "Our country will be 'woke' no longer," he said.
The unforgiving Internet, however, broke into a meme fest and trolled not just Donald Trump, but also JD Vance and Mike Johnson for "maniacally" laughing at the remark "because they have zero idea either".

"I support the 149 year old transgender mice in their fight against Trump," a netizen said.
"I'm not sure what's more ridiculous- President Trump thinking it's 'transgender mice' (instead of transgenic). Or JD Vance and Mike Johnson laughing maniacally at it (because they have zero idea either)," pointed out a user.
"I actually only pay my taxes to make mice transgender," quipped a user.
"The President of the United States is talking about "transgender mice" in front of millions of people. He has lost his damn mind and the United States is now seen as a joke," said a user.
However, a PhD scholar steered the Internet away from jokes to highlight that transgenic mice are a powerful molecular biology tool.
"TransGENIC mice are not TransGENDER mice," the scholar said, adding that the "tax-payers dollars" are being spent "more on the importance of legitimate research tools in the future."
"Just a fake finding for DOGE to run up the numbers and to rally the right with hate," said another user.
But contrasting all views, a user said, "'Transgender mice' was a project to study how to decrease the spread of HIV among the trans community. That benefits all Americans.".

Not that I expect people to know the difference between “transgender” and “transgenic.” But you could at least read and see that it’s a different word and then inquire as to its meaning. Is that really such a hard ask?
I’m not a doctor, but for the uninitiated, my understanding is that researchers introduce human genetic materials to mice so that they will react more like humans in response to pathogens or medicines. This makes the work to fight disease in humans more relevant.
They are not trying to turn girl mice into boy mice….for fuck sake!

Being transgender, by itself, is not mental illness. But you are invited to prove that it is.

In fact, I’ll go ya one better. Let’s assume, for the sake of argument that being trans is mental illness. Based on that assumption, therefore…what, exactly? We shouldn’t study it? We shouldn’t seek to help people? We should speak derisively of them? We should treat them all as a threat? What is your point? Or did you have one beyond trolling?
I read about this on Face Book. When I saw the term transGENIC I thought maybe they were revolutionizing mice to become a better tool for studying human diseases. I read a bit further and found I was right.
Now...I only have an above average intelligence. Mr Super Genius is supposedly smarter than me. Why didn't he figure that out?
Incredibly, in the chain of people from the intern who found this, to his bosses, to the speechwriters, to the president, not one apparently asked if this was a real thing. Even if the first moron was the only one who even saw the word “transgenic” and turned it into “transgender” all by himself, no one else bothered to confirm the “transgender mice” idea. No one paused and said, “is this true? Why would anyone do that? Why would Congress want to fund that?”
They are all incompetent.
This is startling to me since I have to deal with facts all day in my job....and I have fact checkers like my boss who make sure I'm submitting erroneous or just plain wrong stuff
