The U.S. has never had an official language, though many states have designated English.
Did Latinos ever imagine that Trump wouldn't come after them? He's a racist - the kind of person who only excepts others who are JUST like him. Brown skin? Speaks Spanish?
CANNOT BE AMERICAN!

President Trump is planning to sign an executive order making English the official language of the United States, multiple White House sources tell CBS News.
English is already the most commonly used language in the country, but the U.S. has never had an official language at the federal level.
The Wall Street Journal first reported the president's plan to sign the executive order.
The English language executive order will rescind a federal mandate that requires agencies and other recipients of federal funding to provide language assistance to non-English speakers, a mandate issued by former President Bill Clinton. Agencies, however, will still be able to provide documents and services in other languages. The Trump administration says its goal is to "promote unity, establish efficiency in the government, and provide a pathway to civic engagement."
Republican members of Congress have tried unsuccessfully to pass legislation declaring English the official language. Many states have designated English as their official language.
On the campaign trail last year, Mr. Trump decried other languages entering the U.S.
"We have languages coming into our country," Mr. Trump said at CPAC, the Conservative Political Action Conference, outside Washington, D.C., last year. "...These are languages — it's the craziest thing — they have languages that nobody in this country has ever heard of. It's a very horrible thing."
Whatever

Who's next?
Blacks or gays?
Do they speak a language other than English?
Some do.
Haitians (almost all of them Black) speak French. Recent Black immigrants from various French speaking African countries. speak French and/or the native language of their country of origin. Blacks from Brazil speak Portugese.
Blacks from various countries soulth of the border mainly speak Spanish but some come from countries where Spanish is not the native language.
Some Immigrants from many countries speak the language of their country of origin-- but many gays (even if their native language is English) have unique words and phrases common to "gay culture".
meh, so much for the first amendment ...
Too bad that snowflake immigrants didn't have to go through Ellis Island on the way here.
What's wrong with English as a first language?
What Immigrants Had To Go Through Upon Entering Ellis Island
What's wrong with English as a first language?
Many immigrants come from countries that speaka different language-- so even if they come here and learn English its obviously not their "first" language.
Most children of immigrants speak English fairly well (they learn it from other kids in school).
What is a "Snowflake Immigrant"? (Immigrants from Northern Scandinavia perhaps?)
yeah, look what happened the last time. a bunch of southern european swarthy trash, without passports, that get off the boats speaking a foreign language, and bringing with them diseases and organized crime ... /s
Who - the Italians???
The Spanish, who were here long before the English. They didn't go through Ellis Island because Ellis Island wouldn't exist for another few... centuries...
Don't give him any ideas.
remember way back when the first amendment protected us from thumper bullshit?
Does he honestly think that when the USA was experiencing vast amounts of immigrants coming from Europe that they all spoke the same language?
Trump will be the first one to violate his own order.
Covfefe anyone?
Now that we have an official language Trump will to return to school to learn to speak it, Bigly
Shouldn't our official language be the one that was spoken here first? Does anyone know what that was?
Since hundreds if not thousands of indigenous languages pre date English by tens of thousands of years in North America it seems a bit foolish naming English as the “official” language.
What?
There were people here before the English?
Oh right... Spanish...
This should have been done when the country was founded. Maybe they thought it was obvious and didn't think they had to write it out
I'm wondering-- now that English is the official language-- how does that actually effect my life?
I also didn't have any strong feelings when the Gulf of Mexico was re-named the Gulf of America. (Although I noticed some people had fairly strong reactions-- both pro and con).
uh oh, won't this alienate all of his supporters south of the mason-dixon line?
Awesome, I am sure this will lower the price of eggs dramatically.
Well, if anything, lowering the cost of eggs is the sign of a truly great leader!
Throughout history, great Empires have risenand fallen-- but rare is the leader who has actually suceeded in the most challing task of al-- lowering the cost of a dozen eggs!
Had the founding father thought we needed an "official language", they would have included it in the Constitution.
I find that people who shout the loudest for an official language often barely functional in English and have likely never learned and used a foreign language for anything other than making fun of other people.
When I lived in Europe I became fluent in several languages and functional (able to get by) is two or three others and it was amazing how much better people related to me when I made the effort to speak their language.
This is a ludicrous issue that Trump takes up to pander to the MAGAs and divert attention from the trashing of the country that he is carrying out.
I think it's great that you learned how to get by and actually speak a few languages other than American. We don't speak the King's English so we should call it American. And then that gets bogged down by the different dialects of American English.
I took 4 semesters of French in college because I needed it for my degree. Maybe some day I can order a meal in France. More likely, the waiter will probably say in English, "Madam, I speak English very well. Please don't murder my language."
Another ethnically-narcissistic solution to a problem nobody ever had. Right up there with the Gulf of Mexico thing.
That'll fix prices...
Who said anything about fixing prices? Do you remember someone saying they'd fix prices on their first day in office? I certainly don't remember any promises to fix prices!
Hey! Look over there: It's a squirrel!!
