Strangers in their own land
"It's like living in a dystopian nightmare," Daniels told Lawrence Jones on Thursday. "You hope you wake up and it's 2019 again, and then you realize it's 2024, and it's the same thing over and over again, day after day. It's hard sometimes to get up in the morning and hear residents that I've known for years struggle. This is a paycheck-to-paycheck… kind of town… working class. The citizens that depend on our social services like health care, the Rocking Horse [Community Health Center],...

Our dishonest left-wing media is out bombarding the news cycle with a shiny object known as "Haitians eating pets."  To American citizens living in the town of Springfield Ohio (a town of just under 60,000 people) the country is at a crossroads. Their resources, especially health care are under enormous strain due to the resettlement of approximately 20,000 Haitians by the Biden/Harris administration. Not to mention the complaints of residents concerning the
uptick in crime, mayhem and car crashes due to the massive influx of new residents.

The Governor of Ohio is IMO a decent man. Last week he announced that he'll be funneling resources to help ease the influx. Those resources amount to $2.5 million over the course of two years for the county health department and other health care centers. The question Governor DeWine keeps asking is why the migrants were sent to Springfield?

The answer, of course, relates to the results of the 2020 election. As Barack Obama famously said elections have consequences and none more so than the election of 2020. That was the election in which Joe Biden pretended to be a moderate while hiding in his basement as the dishonest media blamed Donald Trump for the pandemic. It was the election which gave rise to the democrat party’s left flank.  Progressives, especially the college graduates, wanted to decriminalize border crossings, ban fracking, abolish private health insurance and defund the police. Joe Biden embraced those radical policies as president alienating traditional Americans. In 4 years, the nation was subjected to a wide-open southern border, rampant inflation as a consequence of a green new deal and rampant crime as local law enforcement was emasculated.

My question is a little different from DeWine's.  Who is speaking on behalf of the people of Ohio?

I think I know the answer. It is the guy who has barely escaped two assassination attempts.

In the news:

A democrat supporter (Ryan Routh, 58) who wrote a book which he self-published last year, in which he accused Donald Trump of threatening American democracy, tried to kill the former President yesterday.

Russia is escalating its bombing campaign against Kyiv and other big Ukrainian cities.

A senior Hamas official, in an interview with The New York Times, maintained that the group was winning the war in Gaza.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office is being sued for any and all records of any communication related to the prosecution of former President Trump between prosecutors and the Biden-Harris campaign, the Democratic National Convention and other groups.

Good morning:

Cornell University professor Russel Rickford is back teaching at the school after calling the Oct. 7 attacks against Israel "exhilarating" last year.

Don't they teach the difference between right and wrong at Cornell?

A little fact-straightening needed here:

"   the dishonest media blamed Donald Trump for the pandemic."

It is obviously ridiculous to blame Trump for the pandemic.  However, it is quite correct to blame Trump that the number of American deaths from it were excessive.  Proof:  He was taped by Woodward ADMITTING in his own words that he delayed doing anything substantial about it for about a month because "he didn't want the people to panic."  Did FDR delay declaring war on the Japanese for a month because "he didn't want the people to panic"?

"A senior Hamas official, in an interview with The New York Times, maintained that the group was winning the war in Gaza."

What a joke.  There is no way they are winning the war in Gaza, but they have ALREADY won the propaganda war around the world, including America, and even among the Israelis.  The widespread existence of antisemitism has been helping them a lot.  I firmly believe that this is their playbook, and it has been succeeding immensely:

LINK > Hamas document reveals psychological warfare strategy using the hostages | Israel National News - Arutz Sheva

And I'm sure you wouldn't ignore a super-Christian far-right source - CBN NEWS :

Hamas’s Psychological Warfare Against Israel | CBN NewsWatch September 5, 2024 | CBN

Besides confirming my point about Hamas' psychological warfare, there is an interesting story tying the Philippines to Israel that I never before knew about.

Even when we disagree on something, you always recognize facts.

Proof:  He was taped by Woodward ADMITTING in his own words that he delayed doing anything substantial about it for about a month because "he didn't want the people to panic."  Did FDR delay declaring war on the Japanese for a month because "he didn't want the people to panic"?

No, that's politics, my friend. FDR didn't delay a declaration of war on Japan, but one thing FDR did do was convince a generation of Americans that he knew how to get out of the Great Depression, even though he didn't. In that way FDR and Trump are alike. Trump developed a vaccine in record time and did what Dr Fauci recommended.

There is no way they are winning the war in Gaza, but they have ALREADY won the propaganda war around the world, including America, and even among the Israelis.  The widespread existence of antisemitism has been helping them a lot.  I firmly believe that this is their playbook, and it has been succeeding immensely:

I agree and I will have some good news from the middle east later this morning. Another tribute to the will of Israel to overcome the odds against them.

Speaking of knowing the difference between right and wrong.

Our dishonest left-wing media is out bombarding the news cycle with a shiny object known as "Haitians eating pets."

I would not have heard about it except from the Former President Trump and his super mouth VP candidate who already admitted he knowingly spread the rumor as fact.

To American citizens living in the town of Springfield Ohio (a town of just under 60,000 people) the country is at a crossroads. Their resources, especially health care are under enormous strain due to the resettlement of approximately 20,000 Haitians

Correct, over the past decade a 1990 George Bush program associated with his Immigration Act of 1990 has allowed Hattians to use the TPS program to legally enter the country to seek work.  There is no path to citizenship.

by the Biden/Harris administration.

FALSE!  Large numbers of Hattians have been emigrating to the US under TPS since 2010.

Not to mention the complaints of residents concerning the uptick in crime, mayhem and car crashes due to the massive influx of new residents.

Residents always seem to complain about something...when I visited Haiti 20 years ago they drove on both sides of the road, mayhem.

The Governor of Ohio is IMO a decent man. Last week he announced that he'll be funneling resources to help ease the influx. Those resources amount to $2.5 million over the course of two years for the county health department and other health care centers.

Agreed, the growing businesses are still advertising for more employees - they are about profit not infrastructure.

The question Governor DeWine keeps asking is why the migrants were sent to Springfield?

I guess the real question is why would you mislead us by lying about De Wine?  He knows damn well why there are Hattians in Dayon, Springfield and Clark County, they legally answered the call for employment with cheap housing.

The migrants weren't dumped there by Biden or Harris, they were invited during the Trump years by Springfield.

If you don't want read about Haitians eating pets, please ask Mr. Trump and Mr. Vance to stop spreading the rumors.

Easy peasy.

I would not have heard about it

The important things that Donald Trump says and more importantly does, we seldom hear about. Let him say something he shouldn't and the media beats him up with it for weeks.

Correct, over the past decade a 1990 George Bush program associated with his Immigration Act of 1990 has allowed Hattians to use the TPS program to legally enter the country to seek work.  There is no path to citizenship.

That is part of it.

Large numbers of Hattians have been emigrating to the US under TPS since 2010.

That is part of it.

And here is the other part you are not talking about:

SAN DIEGO (AP) — About 300,000 Haitians  already in the United States  will now be eligible for temporary legal status allowing them to remain in the U.S. and work because conditions in the strife-torn Caribbean nation are considered unsafe for them to return, the Homeland Security Department said Friday.

The decision marks a major expansion of Temporary Protected Status for  Haitians  and won praise from many in the Haitian and immigration advocacy community.

The TPS designation was created by Congress in 1990 to prevent deportations to countries suffering natural disasters or civil strife. The Homeland Security secretary can grant temporary protection for different nationalities based on conditions in their home countries. It’s generally for a designated period, and people have to apply for the protection and prove they qualify for it. The protection also allows them to apply for a work permit.

This expansion will apply to Haitians who were in the United States on June 3 and will last until Feb. 3, 2026. Anyone arriving after June 3 would not qualify. Separately, Mayorkas also extended the Temporary Protected Status of an estimated 200,000 Haitians who already had it. Their extension will also last through Feb. 3, 2026.

Biden administration extends temporary legal status to 300,000 Haitians, drawing a contrast to Trump | AP News

And here is the other part you are not talking about:

If you were paying attention to my lessons, that was indeed included in my comments and notes.

In fact besides Biden every POTUS since 2010 has had to extend TPS at least twice, sometimes three times,

as it can only be extended for maximum of 18 month increments at a time.

That includes the Trump Pence Administration which had several opportunities to take away TPS yet extended it.

The bottom line is that the Haitians are here legally by the permission of the last three Administrations.

Blaming Biden for extending TPS again is a child's argument.

The Haitians are here legally and weren't dumped anywhere by any Administration.

Springfield OH, Dayton OH and Clark County OH employers love them and want more.

They aren't going anywhere soon.

His account on X, formerly known as Twitter, has now been suspended, and it included a number of posts about Trump.

"@realDonaldTrump While you were my choice in 2106, I and the world hoped that president Trump would be different and better than the candidate, but we all were greatly disappointment and it seems you are getting worse and devolving," he wrote in a June 2020 post. "I will be glad when you gone."

He also referenced the  July 13 assassination attempt  on Trump in multiple posts, suggesting that President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris should visit the injured and attend the funeral of the Pennsylvania rally-goer who was killed.

A Facebook account under Routh's name was no longer online on Sunday evening.

Of course it is predominantly Trump's fault.

Any individual such as Plaskett who calls for violence is also at fault.   People calling for physical harm to political figures are indeed part of the problem.

But Trump is the 800lb gorilla who has been using divisive rhetoric for years.   He is a miserable character who clearly inspires hatred and that alone is enough for a few nutcases to express their emotions with violence.

(And note that the two assassination attempts were from nutcases with GOP leanings ... so partisan politics does not seem to be a factor thus far.)

But you are (because this is a GOP talking point now which you are parroting) trying to argue that criticism of Trump is causing these assassination attempts.   That Trump's political opponents should quiesce ALL of their criticism since it could trigger nuts with guns.

No.   That is absurd.   What needs to be done is to NOT engage in rhetoric suggesting violence.   The balance of the political rhetoric is normal politics.

Bullshit.   Trump is unusual in that he is the only PotUS who violated the peaceful transfer of power by using fraud, coercion, lying, and incitement in an attempt to stay in power after losing the 2020 election.   He attempted to circumvent the CotUS, disenfranchise the electorate, and violated his oath of office.

He is a vindictive narcissist who will clearly use the power of the presidency for his own whims and not as a servant of the people.

Extreme bad behavior will generate extreme criticism.   Labeling someone a 'threat to democracy' who is demonstrably a threat to democracy is spot on.

Our dishonest left-wing media is out bombarding the news cycle with a shiny object known as "Haitians eating pets."  ...

My question is a little different from DeWine's.  Who is speaking on behalf of the people of Ohio?   I think I know the answer. It is the guy who has barely escaped two assassination attempts.

You totally misrepresent why this is in the news.   Springfield, OH is in the news because Trump (and Vance) are talking about Haitian legal migrants eating pets.   If they had been talking about the Springfield resources being stressed then that would be the discussion.   But no, they are talking about Haitian legal migrants as a (confused) example of illegal immigration problems and based on the lie that these migrants are eating the pets of the residents (and now the geese in the parks).

Trump infamously stated this on the world stage during the debate while whining about his rally crowd size after Harris subtly triggered his fragile ego.   He did this among rants about WWIII, illegal immigration, USA as Venezuela on steroids, and his proof that he saw this on TV thus the City Manager's claim is false.

This guy is a clown.   He is the worst nominee for a major party in my lifetime and, best I can tell, the worst by far in the history of our nation.   It is a profound failure in judgment that this scoundrel has been given the opportunity to run for any position of power much less the presidency.

It is a concise read of what she said otherwise she simply would have said I believe in equal opportunity. That would mean we don't end in the same place. Our destiny would be dictated via a variety of things including luck.

That is the exact opposite of Marxism.   Marxism, at its core, is the masses controlling society (and, in particular, the economy).   Per Marx, the ideal evolution of Marxism is a society that is democratically run and without the need for a state.

That sounds like something Marx himself would say. When has that ever happened?  Do you know why the Soviet Union dissolved?

It was because one Russian leader pushed through some reforms and allowed people to vote on what they didn't like. It turned out that the people didn't like a Marxist economy, and entire regions broke away from the Russian nation completely.

That sounds like something Marx himself would say.

Exactly.   Marx believed that a society should be based on a practical application of equal opportunity with unequal results.   He believed that society could easily satisfy basic needs so that there would be no poverty and that people would be free to apply their talents as they see fit.   Idealistic, certainly, but entirely different from what you et. al. incorrectly keep pushing as below:

When has that ever happened?  Do you know why the Soviet Union dissolved?

The former USSR was doing the exact opposite of what Marx outlined.

It was because one Russian leader pushed through some reforms and allowed people to vote on what they didn't like. It turned out that the people didn't like a Marxist economy, and entire regions broke away from the Russian nation completely.

The former USSR did not have a Marxist economy.   If they did then that would mean that the people of the former USSR were democratically controlling the economy in a stateless, classless society.   That they all had economic freedom.    Do you think the people of the former USSR lived in such a condition?

Stalin, et. al. did not purse Marxism ... they pursued brutal authoritarian rule and merely labeled it Marxism.   Instead of the people being empowered, Stalin et.al. exploited the people in a brutal and clearly defined class-based society.

Again, you demonstrably do not understand what Marx outlined.

I see. That must be why when Gatovsky declared the first five year plan a success, Stalin told him that he was an idiot who would go far.

Is Marxism another one of these ideals that was never put into practice?

Yep That's the schtick.  As soon as a marxist government by avowed Marxists  inevitably fails and ends in massive amounts of death and poverty, the remaining  Marxists declare they weren't "real Marxists."  Marxists have adopted the "no true scotsman" logical fallacy as their coping mechanism.

Is Marxism another one of these ideals that was never put into practice?

The facts are obvious.

Marxism Stalinism, etc.
Democratic rule by the demos (brutal) Authoritarian rule
Economy controlled by the demos Command economy (state control)
Stateless nation Domineering military state
Classless society Strict class division (party operatives/affiliates vs. everyone else)
Freedom to live to work (to pursue one's passions / talents)  Exploitation (literally working people to death)
Industrial technology to provide all basic needs Industrial technology to build military might leading to an impoverished demos

Leaders have used labels to control perception for recorded history.   Those who care to know what is going on will not simply fall for labels and will look at what is actually being done.    Stalin claimed to be a Marxist, claimed to be implementing Communism, claimed to working for the people.   In reality, however, he implemented the exact opposite of what Marx outlined and the direction of the former USSR before its demise showed no signs of the people gaining democratic control over society and their economy.

I doubt that Marx' vision will ever be a reality, but in the meantime people can at least get educated about what he profiled instead of falling for propaganda and repeated misunderstanding of the fundamentals.
