Bush Republicans Cheney and Gonzales Endorse Kamala Harris
Dick Cheney and torture enthusiast Alberto Gonzales have both endorsed Kamala Harris over Donald Trump in the past week.

Do you remember Alberto Gonzales? It is all right if you don't; it's been a long time since he served as the White House counsel, then attorney general in the George W. Bush administration where he was an architect of some of the early war on terror's worst legal offenses. You can thank him, in part, for the U.S. using military tribunals on terrorist suspects and the torture practices known as "enhanced interrogation techniques." In 2007, he resigned amid calls for his ouster in the Senate for firing federal prosecutors for political reasons.

And now, the Republican once devoted to bending the law in his party's favor has come out of retirement to call Donald Trump "the most serious threat to the rule of law in a generation" and announce his support for Kamala Harris in the November election.

"Power is intoxicating, and based on Trump's rhetoric and conduct it appears unlikely that he would respect the power of the presidency in all instances," Gonzales wrote in a letter in Politico on Thursday. "Rather, he would abuse it for personal and political gain, and not on behalf of the American people." As for Harris, Gonzales wrote that she "appears" to be "the best suited, able, and committed to unite us in a manner consistent with the rule of law."

Gonzales is the second Bush-era figure in a week to come out of retirement to announce their support for the Democratic candidate over Donald Trump. Last Friday, former vice-president Dick Cheney wrote in a statement that "there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump" and that he will be voting for Harris. Trump, in response, wrote on Truth Social that Cheney was "an irrelevant RINO."

Cheney and Gonzales join the ranks of many former Trump officials who have announced their support for Harris — including Trump's former press secretary and his former White House communications director. Many more — including Mike Pence, Bill Barr, James Mattis, Mark Esper — have said he is unfit for office. But for anyone who holds out hope that George W. Bush will speak out — as he did rather explicitly at Trump's inauguration — his office insists that the former president is retired from presidential politics and is focused on his painting.

After the way Kamala presented (compared to Trump)-- that should be no surprise!

My goodness, I can't believe I forgot about Gonzalez and that whole SNAFU and FUBAR administration.

That Shotgun Dick denounces the former 'president' says a lot for someone that's even worse.

Bush Republicans endorse Kamala.....

They come from a time where the GOP was almost respectable. Sadly, that GOP is dead.

I never respected dubya or the real president at the time if the truth be told - Cheney - he was the one calling the shots.  That doesn't make us proud of these endorsements - just shows you that evil bastards like Shotgun Dick don't hold a candle to complete traitors like the former 'president'

That should be illegal. I need to do a google search to see if leopards are endangered

Edit:

The primary threat to the leopard is human activity

Habitat fragmentation, reduced prey base, and human-wildlife conflict have greatly reduced this species’ population throughout most of their range. Although they are widely distributed across Africa and Asia, due to habitat fragmentation and loss, their range has reduced by 31 percent worldwide in the past three generations (about 22 years). The commercialized bushmeat trade has caused a collapse of prey populations across large parts of savanna Africa — estimated an average of 59 percent decline in prey populations across 78 protected areas.

Awesome!  The NAzis and Christian Fascists have joined the Harris campaign..

I was taken aback. I have heard all the complaints from the major theocrats that Gonzales was not tough enough on abortion and affirmative action. But Gonzales signed off on the opinions justifying the hell of Guantánamo and Abu Ghraib. And I can imagine, without much effort, Gonzales approving the same practices of holding people incommunicado, without either charges or lawyers and the same practices of psychological and physical torture used there, should women like this at some point come into the sights of the state. This woman—who is afraid of a real-life Handmaid’s Tale—finds that very fear trapping her in exactly the dynamic that will lead us down the road to the Republic of Gilead, accepting and even promoting something who just weeks ago was unconscionable because today they seem (!) slightly less terrifying than the alternative presented. What does it tell us when the “slightly less terrifying” end of the political spectrum is an architect and apologist for a whole system of torture?!

Just peak comedy how they've been running the same world is ending talking points for 20 years and just change the names of their targets:

Progressive 1:

Gonzales and Cheney are monsters! They are Nazis  destroying America

Progressive 2:

They endorsed Harris:

Progressive 1:

They are the smart Republicans! Glad they are are on our  side!

Poor Bin Laden died before he could have remade himself as a progressive hero by endorsing Harris....
