A common decency law.

A common decency law.
“A child in their brain development doesn’t have the ability to know that they’re being sucked into these addictive technologies and to see the harm and step away from it, and because of that, we have to step in for them,” Renner said at the bill-signing ceremony held at a school in Jacksonville, Florida.

It is sad that we need laws to do what parents used to take care of, but after the immoral minority won the culture wars long ago, that is where we are today.

I guess a liberal might say "social media" opened the world to our kids , while a Conservative would say "social media" has opened our kids to the world.

Therefore:

G ov.  Ron DeSantis  (R-FL) signed the country’s most restrictive  social media  ban for minors on Monday. The bill faces legal opposition on the basis of the  First Amendment .

The bill, which takes effect Jan. 1, 2025, bars children under age 14 from having social media accounts and requires parental consent for 14- and 15-year-olds to have any. Social media companies that violate the law can be fined $50,000, and existing accounts of minors must be deactivated. The legislation was a top priority for Florida House Speaker Paul Renner, a Republican.

DeSantis signs strict social media bill facing First Amendment challenge (msn.com)

One could argue that the law is almost unenforceable, but it is about setting standards and once again the state of Florida is at the forefront of resorting decency to the country.

In other news:

The cargo ship that collided with the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore lost power shortly before the collision with a vital piece of the bridge's structure. The foreign vessel has a long history of mishaps. President Biden went to Baltimore immediately and promised that the federal government will rebuild the bridge.

Supreme Court justices sounded inclined to reject a bid to restrict nationwide access to an abortion pill known as mifepristone, during legal arguments.

The Biden campaign joined TikTok to reach younger voters.

As a surprise to nobody, Barack Obama regularly calls top Biden aides to offer campaign strategy.

NBC News buckled to their extremist hosts and cut ties to Ronna McDaniel the former Republican Party chairwoman. Lawsuits are expected.

Trump’s social media company surged on its first day of trading on the Nasdaq, adding billions to his wealth and angering democrats who seem to hate the idea that Trump is wealthy and successful.

The judge overseeing Trump’s Manhattan criminal trial imposed another gag order on Trump, but not on the prosecutors who are taunting him daily.

Israel is deploying facial recognition to conduct surveillance in Gaza, according to Israeli military and intelligence officials.
Israel on Tuesday claimed it had killed the deputy leader of Hamas’ armed wing in the Gaza Strip, who helped plan the October 7 attacks. Military spokesperson Daniel Hagari said that according to intelligence obtained by Shin Bet and the intelligence branch, Marwan Issa was killed about two weeks ago, along with another senior militant, called Razi Abu Tamaa.

The DNC is unleashing an army of lawyers to keep Robert F Kennedy Jr off state ballots.

Major League Baseball is once again confronting its old nemesis: gambling.

Mollie Hemingway is trying to comprehend it all:

The Russia collusion lie, the Kavanaugh smear, the J6 hysteria, Biden sycophancy, rabid anti-GOP treatment on every issue were all fine but firing the single Republican on an otherwise all-Democrat staff after 48 hours of meltdown is too much?   OK.

Mc Daniel was not fired because she is a Republican. She was fired because she denies the result of the 2020 election.

She was asked Sunday, on NBC, if Biden won the election fair and square. Lets just say she didnt reply with a "yes".

I read yesterday that Truth Social would have to get 100 times bigger than it is now in order to be a legitimate rival to the other large social media companies like X ,Facebook, and Instagram.

Since every MAGA nut in existence is likely already a member over there, it's hard to picture where all this growth could possibly come from. Truth Social is not going to get bigger.

It is the opposite of a successful business.

What Trump is good at it separating fools from their money.

That is true and understandable. Truth Social has to become more user friendly.

Since every MAGA nut in existence is likely already a member over there, it's hard to picture where all this growth could possibly come from. Truth Social is not going to get bigger.

It gets bigger the moment it elevates the opinions of its users.

It is the opposite of a successful business.

It was not created for the purpose of making money. It was created because the old, biased Twitter barred Trump from speaking. Trump began it simply to have a place to speak on social media. Since then, a lot more people have become involved, and it can evolve into a true social media platform. It must really hurt to know that he outsmarted the lefties again.

What Trump is good at it separating fools from their money.

Stock prices go up and down. The market isn't for everybody.

Surely you are not looking to Trump for a consistent stream of truth.

Nov 27, 2023:

Trump has not spent much time discussing healthcare as he has laid out an aggressive agenda for a potential second term that has focused on immigration crackdowns and mass deportations, as well as efforts to target political rivals.

But Trump weighed in on the issue Saturday morning on his Truth Social site.

“The cost of Obamacare is out of control, plus, it’s not good Healthcare. I’m seriously looking at alternatives,” he wrote. “We had a couple of Republican Senators who campaigned for 6 years against it, and then raised their hands not to terminate it. It was a low point for the Republican Party, but we should never give up! ”

Yeah, Vic, Trump will be treated well by history.

Just imagine how great it will be to be noted as the only PotUS to attempt to steal a US presidential election through fraud, coercion, lying, and incitement.   To actively attempt to violate the CotUS with acts such as suborning his own VP to table certified votes in a desperate plan to have Congress accept his alternate fake electors and attempting to coerce state officials to engage in illegal / unconstitutional acts.

Imagine how impressive videos of Trump making idiotic speeches and engaging in high school name-calling in comparison to Ronald Reagan's "Mr Gorbachev, tear down this wall", etc.

Trump was, by far, the most unpresidential, irresponsible, narcissistic PotUS in my lifetime and arguably in US history.

Trump was a childish, irresponsible, loose-cannon embarrassment for this nation.   The opposite of greatness.

That was an observation rather than a campaign pledge.

He is repeating what Speaker Paul Ryan once sold him on. They depended on Repeal & Replace Obamacare to subsidize their tax cut and every piece of legislation was backed up behind it. They learned 2 terrible lessons:

1) Enough of their constituents had already received the benefits of the ACA to make overturning it very contentious even among Republicans.

2) After tying up the prime year for legislation, the vote would come down to a single vote and that would be cast by a war hero, who allowed vengefulness to overtake him.

Trump may still look for alternatives, but he has not been running on it.

Reality is that Trump has realized that he has no chance to repeal ACA.   But Trump just cannot shut his mouth.

What he says while running for PotUS in terms of intent is ipso facto part of his campaign.

If he does not want people to think he intends to replace ACA then he should not make statements like:

“The cost of Obamacare is out of control, plus, it’s not good Healthcare.   I’m seriously looking at alternatives,” he wrote.  “We had a couple of Republican Senators who campaigned for 6 years against it, and then raised their hands not to terminate it.
