Trump backs up talk of using US military to enforce mass deportations

Donald Trump gave the nod on social media this morning to the notion that he wants to use the military to enforce his previously-stated intentions for the mass deportation of undocumented immigrants from the US once he gets into office.

The Republican president-elect talked on the election campaign trail about declaring a national emergency in order to trigger powers that would facilitate a rare and highly controversial move to engage the US military to help deport millions of people he deems to be in the US illegally.

Trump responded "TRUE" in an early-morning post on his own platform, Truth Social, after a conservative activist had said he heard such reports.

Tom Fitton , the president of the influential conservative group Judicial Watch, had posted: "GOOD NEWS: Reports are the incoming @RealDonaldTrump administration prepared to declare a national emergency and will use military assets to reverse the Biden invasion through a mass deportation program."

Trump reposted with his own comment, "true", appearing to confirm.

It's all legal and proper. They need to start with the terrorists and criminals that are assuredly somewhere in the mix with the law abiding and hard-working immigrants. So many claims as needing asylum have turned out to be not true. Everyone else needs to get in line and wait.

With the number of known terrorists that come into the US under Biden, it only makes sense to use the military to target them domestically the same way we do overseas.

Trump campaigned on this, America overwhelmingly voted for it. It's happening.

Democrats tried to secure future elections by allowing tens of millions of unvetted  to illegally enter the country and then used tax dollars to fly and bus them to swing states. America soundly rejected this.

Just like all the Latinos that were supposed to vote in lock step with the Democrats?  that apparently didn't work out as planned this year and can never be counted on in the long run as it may take most folks 10 years to get the right to vote.

America soundly rejected the attempt to highjack elections.

You keep saying that as if it is correct, meaningful or anything other than conservative propaganda.

Trump won the popular vote by 2,659,742 votes in a race

The EC was concocted to keep the power in the hands of property owning white men.

The Framers also thought that the popular vote would eventually allow a popular but unqualified candidate to win the popular vote so they concocted a system where each state picked it's own electors, the adults in the room, to make sure only qualified candidates could win.

Well, sorry to say that ship has sailed and the EC has been figured out and usurped by party politics, not what's necessarily the best for the country.

Once again it boiled down to PA, MI & WI.

That's hardly fair and many West coast voters simply don't bother voting, the election is over before all of their votes are counted.

It's a broken system, Trump hated it when Obama won, loved it when Trump won, despised it when losing to Biden, now he loves it again.

It's been reported Tren de Aragua is a problem in the US.

Since it was reported mostly by the one campaign as evidence that crime is rampant in the US; the same campaign that railed against the economy after inflation has come back down, I will simply use my years of experience to make my own conclusions and not rely on the lies of politicians, thank you.

the DoJ and the FBI reports crime down significantly ( like 70 %? )  since 1993.

Both the FBI and BJS data show dramatic declines in U.S. violent and property crime rates since the early 1990s, when crime spiked across much of the nation.

Using the FBI data, the violent crime rate fell 49% between 1993 and 2022, with large decreases in the rates of robbery (-74%), aggravated assault (-39%) and murder/nonnegligent manslaughter (-34%). It’s not possible to calculate the change in the rape rate during this period because the FBI  revised its definition of the offense in 2013 .

Crime in the U.S.: Key questions answered | Pew Research Center

I have lived all over the states and haven't witnessed this.  I was an ombudsman on base for three years and can honestly say that even living on a very secure base cannot keep one from incurring harm from one' neighbors.

So until I can see the crime or the illegal immigrants running down the streets of my Texas town, I will listen to the political hype with much suspicion.

I can only assume he's going to first try to use NG troops, but that will cost a shit ton of cash as well as all those unhappy troops getting shafted at their jobs and in their personal lives while they are away from home.

Trump did say he wanted to pull troops from overseas and station them on the border. That will be a logistical and political nightmare just to pull them. Those nations depend on the money the US military spends in their locations as well as the missions they provide. To put them on the border the Trump admin would have to seize public and private lands and that won't go without a legal fight.

No matter what this will cost a shit ton of money for a temporary fix.

The jobs are protected under federal law.  They'll still have them when they return and the families should be familiar with how deployments work.

That will be a logistical and political nightmare just to pull them. Those nations depend on the money the US military spends in their locations as well as the missions they provide.

It would be a logistical challenge.  As far as the nations depending on the money, I think it's safe to say that the money going to them for "protection" would be cut quickly enough.

We Texans have been fighting that fight since 1845. Having been a sovereign nation, the original southern border and the current southern Texas border were private property, cities, towns and in some cases. Indian territories.

There is no Federal buffer zone in Texas as there is in CA, AZ, NM.  Cases started by George Bush and Bill Clinton are still being fought in courts over the border, walls and access to water rights.

I've been told several times that context matters here.

Fixed is a binary choice. There are only 2 choices - fixed or not fixed. If it's reversed with simply signing EO statements then it's not fixed. Congress can allocate proper funding and change the way the laws work. They don't seem to want to. Maybe Trump can push Congress to do that. If so I'll give him all the credit due.

Allowing 15 Million to cross the border unvetted is a national security threat. We all know why Democrats allowed this. Neocons won't be happy, they rather use our military to defend other countries but the electorate voted, America first. In case you didn't pay attention it was a sweeping victory and Democrats only won states where no Voter ID is required. That's going to change too.

The jig is up, no amount of acrobatics can justify what Democrats did at the border. While your outraged is noted by the echo chamber that supports your statements, the majority think otherwise on this issue.

Buckle up, bite on leather because this is happening.

If anyone knows where the 300,000 children smuggled across the border are, this is the time to speak up?

Donald Trump gave the nod on social media this morning to the notion that he wants to use the military to enforce his previously-stated intentions for the mass deportation of undocumented immigrants from the US once he gets into office.

Good luck!

What are their names? Where do they live? Any idea? At all? What resources will be employed to find out? How much money will be spent finding this information? What if you arrest somebody and they claim you got the wrong guy or they’re here legally? What if they ask for asylum?

Are we just going to skip due process and deport anyone we pick up?

Government can’t scratch its own ass without fucking it up somehow. Does anyone believe that government will just run out into the country, find illegal aliens - and only illegal aliens and make no mistakes?

I’m not saying don’t try. Just stop promising the moon.

500,000 sounds like a drop in the bucket. Trump has been talking about tens of millions.

And, by the way, talking about removing tens of millions of people from the country - in some short time period - with apparently no concern for the impact that will have on the economy.

But I’m not concerned any of this will actually happen. None of his big promises ever actually happen.

But I’m not concerned any of this will actually happen. None of his big promises ever actually happen.

I wish more people followed this thought process.

Those egg prices are gonna spike really quick along with other vegetables, meat, and poultry. Why don't they go after the businesses that employ immigrants? Who do you blame? The wealthy elites who exploit immigrant labor or the immigrants? Republicans never go after the source of a problem.

I blame the source....the corporatists who employ the labor because it's cheap and these people have no means of complaining about how management treats them

Bob

In order to circumvent  the Posse Commitatus Law, wouldn't Trump have to invoke The Insurrection Act and demonstrate that the people he wanted the military to arrest, detain and deport were actually involved in an  insurrection against the U.S.?

The Insurrection Act   provides an exception to the Posse Comitatus Act, authorizing the president to deploy both the regular U.S. military and the active-duty National Guard in cases of insurrection and rebellion. The Insurrection Act can empower the president to bypass Congress in deploying the regular military on American soil.
I am unable to see how the SCOTUS (even in its current makeup) go along with that presumption

I do not remember you saying anything objectionable in a comment to me and I certainly did not complain about anything you said so far as this old gray head can remember.

You are one of the smartest guys on NT and able to discuss issues withut melting down - I will miss that

He missed that chance back on Jan 6th, as he played with himself while watching people he summoned and incited, wreak havoc on our own capitol, thus why i view Trum as a pussy, a pussy grabber, and an American back stabber
