An overwhelming mandate

An overwhelming mandate
“America has given us an unprecedented and powerful mandate,” Trump said in a victory speech early Wednesday morning.

The big takeaway from Tuesday is that America  did
shift toward Trump in 2024, and it shifted in a major way.  In Florida, he defeated Harris by 13 percentage points, roughly quadrupling his 2020 margin. He lost in Virginia — but by 5 points this time instead of 10. In the deep blue states of New York and New Jersey, he performed better (on the presidential level) than any Republican in decades.

oakImage-1730970089036-jumbo.png
By The New York Times

Trump actually enlarged his base.  He made inroads with Latinos and Black voters and claimed modest gains in suburbs and cities. Trump won Miami-Dade County, which has many Latino voters. It is the first time a Republican presidential candidate has done so since 1988.  Support for Trump in the border counties of South Texas helped him win the state by 14 percentage points, based on the latest count. He won by only six points in 2020. Starr County went to a Republican for the first time since 1896. The big blue city of New York has moved a little more to the right each time Trump has run, and now by 26 percentage points since 2016.  In Dearborn, Mich., which believe it or not now has a majority-Arab American population, Trump won with 46% of the vote (Harris received 36 percent, while Jill Stein of the Green Party received 18 percent.) Trump may have even taken the blue wall for the Republicans.

As of right now the GOP has won back the US Senate. The House is very much up for grabs as there are still votes to be counted at this late date. If the GOP wins the House, we should expect implementation of the Trump agenda on the economy, the border, crime and trade.

For the democrats, this should be a time of self-reflection. It appears they were wrong about the abortion issue winning the past few elections. It now seems that the other common denominator was at play - early voting. In the past two elections, democrats were able to find and register new prospective democrat voters and got them to bank their votes early. They were so successful at it they may have found every likely democrat voter. This time Republicans mastered the same trick and soundly defeated their proxy candidate.

The other issue that helped decide this election was Americans firm belief that America was on the wrong track. Joe Biden was elected in 2020 amid the chaos of the pandemic with a single promise to be a moderate unifier. He governed with the Bernie Sanders agenda and called half the country "fascist" and "garbage." When the polls showed he had no chance of winning, the democrats replaced him with a certified leftist who was nothing more than a DEI hire. They also weaponized the DOJ to go after Trump while the media continued to lie about him.

The question is: Have the democrats learned anything?

From what we can see so far, the answer is NO.

In the news:

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was among one of the first world leaders to call and congratulate President-Elect Trump. Netanyahu also fired his defense minister.

Germany’s chancellor, Olaf Scholz, fired his finance minister.

Hurricane Rafael cut power across Cuba which has struggled with its faltering energy grid.

A fire in South California has swept across 10,000 acres in a few hours. The blaze burned homes and prompted evacuations.

The DOJ and Jack Smith are winding down their lawfare prosecutions of the President-Elect.

CBS still refuses to turn over the full transcript of the heavily edited "60 Minutes" interview with Kamala Harris.

Good morning

07themorning-nl-HARRIS-jwfb-jumbo.jpg

In an odd & rudely belated concession speech, Kamala Harris implied that she may try to one day run again. The speech was full of tired campaign rhetoric and she told her supporters: “While I concede this election, I do not concede the fight that fueled this campaign. “Sometimes the fight takes a while.”

Is there something seriously wrong with you?

Why dont you reprint Trumps "on time" concession speech from 2020.

Some people can hardly get a sentence out without stepping in it.

She simply told her supporters to go home on election night, then waited another day and a half, and eventually conceded in a very nasty way.

What kind of example is that for young women?

That one broods in bed all day when things don't go as expected?

I dislike it when politicians use the term 'mandate'. They usually use it to justify what they want to do regardless if it's good policy or not. IMO this shift is not just a move towards Trump and the Republicans but also a shift away from Harris and the Democrats. The Democrats have played identity politics for so long and more and more people have come to realize that it's just lip service and they have not received any gains from the Democrats. People get tired of being taken for granted.

I'm also waiting on the vote count to complete to find out where the House sits. Having the Senate go Republican will help in getting Trump's cabinet seated but I really don't want the Republicans to hold on to the House. I much prefer a split Congress as that tends to lessen the harm they can actually do.

He did some good things and always tried to maintain the special status of the Senate. The one thing I wished that he had done when he was Majority Leader was to establish a 60-vote threshold for changing Senate rules. They are all too easy to change.

faux impeachment ?  He stated  Trump was the  cause

And that didn't change voter's minds, did it?  The voting public knows much, much, much more about Donald Trump than any other politician.  And it didn't matter.

Maybe these career politicians need to exert a little more effort to find out what did matter to voters.

In Florida, he defeated Harris by 13 percentage points, roughly quadrupling his 2020 margin.

It's really amazing what DeSantis has done in Florida.

Florida went from the ultimate battleground state, one Obama won in 2012 and turned it into a safer red state than New York or Illinois is blue, simply by being an excellent Governor.

MEXICO CITY —   The  election of Donald Trump  — whose campaign featured  incendiary proposals on tariffs , immigration and combating drug trafficking — is sending shock waves through Mexico, a nation with close economic, social and cultural ties to its northern neighbor.

The president-elect’s vows to  impose steep taxes  on goods imported from Mexico — up to 100% or more on vehicles — is viewed as a profound threat in a  nation heavily dependent on trade with the United States .

“It’s a disaster,” Juan Carlos Moreno-Brid, an economics professor at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, said of Trump’s election. “I mean, it couldn’t be worse.”

Mexico’s economy — driven almost exclusively by trade, with more than 80% of exports sent north of the border — is already on the brink of recession after years of sluggish growth, said Moreno-Brid.

Mexico is bracing for a new Trump presidency after years of threats - Los Angeles Times

I have a gut feeling that Mexico will either reinstate "Remain-in-Mexico" or forfeit trade with the US.

Yes, Democrats risked turning the 2024 election into a referendum on the Democratic Party.

Democrats were rejected up ballot, down ballot, and around the ballot by a felonious traitor that allies loathe, partners fear, and adversaries cannot predict.  Democrats' celebrity supporters, rock star politicians, and GOP allies were defeated by a buffoon, a clown, a loose canon, a rambling carney barker who only speaks to hear his own voice.

Democrats have only themselves to blame.  But, naturally, Democrats' kneejerk response scapegoats everyone and everything other than themselves.  Democrats refuse to listen to Trump voters.  Trump voters were voting for closed borders and managed immigration, they're voting to bring back manufacturing and blue collar jobs, they're voting to stop meddling in foreign countries and wading into decade long wars, they're voting to do something even if it doesn't work.  The electorate has grown tired of kicking the can.  The electorate isn't as easily impressed by threats to drown the puppies or fear of bogey men and closet monsters.

The voting electorate sent a clear message they want an alternative to the priorities and promises made by the Democratic Party.  Democrats turned the 2024 election into a referendum on themselves.  And they lost that gamble.  Now is the time for introspection instead of finger pointing.  Now it's time for the Democratic Party to change instead of whining and throwing tantrums.

There's a lot to fear from the party of revenge and retribution - especially when the former 'president' traitor soon to be 'president' traitor again - puts him and Nancy Pelosi in the crosshairs - the traitor has called them and all Democrats - THE ENEMIES FROM WITHIN

They should provide extra protection to Schumer and Pelosi - the traitor put targets on their backs - it's like he has rifles pointed at their faces.
